Mogollon, New Mexico

A lady I work with mentioned a Ghost Town in the Gila National Forest that sounds like it'd be worth visiting. It would only take a few hours to get there, and from the photos I've seen, it looks like something straight out of a movie:

Could be interesting. Plus, it's always exciting to see what kind of collectibles are offered in odd, tucked away little towns.

Dover Publications

In a previous entry, I mentioned Dover Publications and the numerous collections of royalty free images they offer for creative use. You can sign up for weekly email samples from their website, so I save the ones I like here and there. I decided to post a few illustrations that I think would look neat in a nursery, (well, I suppose, because I don't want a nursery anytime soon,) or maybe a hallway:

HRmageddon

A few nights ago, I saw a preview for an arcade-style game on Adult Swim called "Floater." The point of the game is to poke a dead body down a stream and create as much head trauma, broken bones, and explosions as possible before your time is up. Whilst checking it out, I stumbled upon "HRmageddon," and I ended up playing the stupid thing for 2 hours.

The basic goal of the game is to wipe out the opposing office crew or take over as many cubicles as you can before the other team. There is an interesting array of characters and attacks, and it's addicting in it's simplicity. It reminds me of some of the earlier Nintendo games, particularly "The Adventures of Lolo."

If you want to check out "HRmageddon," and other interesting games to pass the time, visit Adult Swim.

The above photographs are from the series, "Domesicated." I think these have more of an impact when viewed as a whole, rather than just in pieces and parts. Please visit her website for more. The statement below was taken from there:

"My photographs serve as modern dioramas of our new natural history. Within these scenes I explore our paradoxical relationship with the "wild" and how our conflicting impulses continue to evolve and alter the behavior of both humans and animals. We at once seek connection with the mystery and freedom of the natural world, yet we continually strive to tame the wild around us and compulsively control the wild within our own nature. Within my work I examine the primal issues of comfort and fear, dependence and determination, submission and dominance that play out in the physical and psychological encounters between man and the natural world. Increasingly, these encounters take place within the artificial ecotones we have constructed that act as both passage and barrier between domestic space and the wild.

The photographs in this series are constructed based on real stories from local newspapers and oral histories of intentional and random interactions between humans and animals. The narratives are set in and around Matamoras, a small town in Northeast Pennsylvania that borders a state forest."

Horray, I found the photographers I was looking for! (And what are the odds that one has a link to the other's work on their personal blog?)

I adore the use of lighting in his work. It is eerie and disarming:

...

I spent all afternoon, (well, apart from work,) trying to hunt for two photographers I'd seen ages ago online. One had an talent for lighting and ghostly vivid images, (male,) and the other had an interesting way of blending together suburbia and nature, (female.) So here's the end of the day and I've found neither.

Better luck tomorrow...
